St. Patrick´s Day

Principal feriado da Irlanda, e celebrado em 17 de março, o St. Patrick’s Day é uma celebração feita em homenagem ao padroeiro irlandês, São Patrício, conhecido por ter levado a religião católica para o local. É uma das datas mais importantes do ano e se espalhou pelos descendentes de irlandeses ao redor do mundo. St. Patrick utilizava o trevo de três folhas, chamado de shamrock, para explicar aos fiéis sobre a Santíssima Trindade católica. A planta, símbolo de sorte vindo da antiga cultura celta, acabou tornando-se parte integral da cultura irlandesa e da celebração do dia de St. Patrick ao longo dos anos. A principal forma de se comemorar o St. Patrick’s Day é usando roupas e acessórios de cor verde. Acredita-se que a relação da data com o verde tenha origem na cor do trevo shamrock e na bandeira da Irlanda. E para celebrar o St. Patrick’s Day, os alunos do Fundamental I realizaram a oração em inglês, além de algumas atividades para celebrar esse dia!


This is Ireland’s main holiday and it’s celebrated on March 17th, St. Patrick’s Day is a celebration made in honor of the Irish patron saint, Saint Patrick, known for bringing the Catholic religion to the place. It is one of the most important dates of the year and was spread to Irish descendants around the world. St. Patrick used the three-leaf clover, called shamrock, to explain to the faithful about the Catholic Holy Trinity. The plant, a symbol of luck from ancient Celtic culture, has become an integral part of Irish culture and the celebration of St. Patrick over the years. The main way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day is wearing green clothes and accessories. This relation with green is believed to originate from the color of shamrock clover and the flag of Ireland. And to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, the Elementary students prayed in English, as well as played some activities to celebrate this day!
